It is a medium sized caulescent saxicolous (can exceed 30 cm) species with fairly rapid growth that has many, quite thick, polystic leaves. Gaines little marked, in the extension of the limb which is triangular. The leaves are greyish white.
This air plant bloom from the simple, globose inflorescence barely exceeding the plant, with about ten flowers. The bracts of the flowering stem are similar to the leaves. The floral bracts are green and not flaky at the base, reddish and scaly at the apex. The non-fragrant flowers are non-tubular, 3 cm long, intense red color. The stamens and pistil are included.
