IDENTIFY DENDROBIUM ALATICAULINUM
Dendrobium alaticaulinum is native to North Papua New Guinea. These plants are found near Keglsugl, about 105 km southwest of Madang, where they usually grow on forest trees at heights of 2750-3170 m.
It is a small sized, cold growing epiphyte, which reaching 13-15 cm in height, with slender, pendant, often fractiflex, branched, pale yellowish-brown color, 13 cm long stems carrying small, deciduous, ovate-lanceolate, dull dark-green, thin, spreading, 1.3-1.8 cm long and fall off over time leaves that are spaced along the length of the stem.

The minor flowers are 0.4-0.5 cm in diameter. The flakes of both whorls may be more or less orange or pink at the base paler to almost creamy at the apexes. The ruff is scarlet. The spur is fiery orange.
DENDROBIUM ALATICAULINUM CARE AND CULTURE
Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.
Light:
Dendrobium alaticaulinum needs a light level of 18000-25000 lux.
Temperature:
This plant is cold-loving. The average temperature of the day throughout the year is 20-24 ° C, night 8-10 ° C, giving a daily difference of 10-15 ° C.
Humidity:
The Winged-Stem Dendrobium needs a humidity of probably 70-80% throughout the year.
Substrate, growing media and repotting:
Dendrobium alaticaulinum is best mounted on tree fern rootstock, but in summer the plants must be watered at least once a day and the humidity high. When growing in pots, a medium consisting of bark, osmund fern or chopped tree fern fibers with the addition of a component retaining part of the water is recommended. The substrate must be constantly moist, but not soaked. The location on the sphagnum moss layer is favorable. Repotting can be performed in any period as soon as new roots grow.
Watering:
Water is abundant throughout the year, but during the 3-4 winter months is a bit drier. Cultivated plants should be kept constantly moist.
Fertilizer:
During the active growth of the plants should be fertilized every week 1/4-1/2 of the recommended dose of fertilizer for orchids. Balanced fertilizer should be used all year round.
Rest period:
Watering and fertilization in winter should be slightly reduced, especially when plants are grown in the conditions of a short, dark day. Dendrobium alaticaulinum should dry a little between watering, but they can never completely dry out. When the spring begins, you should gradually increase watering and fertilizing.
