IDENTIFY PHALAENOPSIS BELLINA

Phalaenopsis bellina is native to Malaysia and Borneo. It grows in shady, humid, lowland and swampy riverine forests low down on trees often near or on branches overhanging stream banks at elevations of sea level to 200 meters.

Phalaenopsis bellina care and culture

It is a small sized, hot growing, pendant growing epiphyte with an erect to ascending, short stem completely enveloped by persistent leaf-bearing sheaths and carrying pendulous, broad, rounded, light green, 30 cm long leaves.

The Beautiful Phalaenopsis blooms in the summer and fall on a suberect or arcuate, 7 cm long, racemose or paniculate, few flowered inflorescence with a flattened, fractiflex rachis and small ovate bracts and has only 2 to 3, highly fragrant flowers open at a time. The flowers are waxy, measuring about 4-5 cm in diameter. The two lower sepals seem to rest on the leaves and present an electric magenta coloration, especially on the lower half. The upper petals and sepals have a buttery green color which makes the contrast very striking. The magenta color seems to bleed into the other petals until it totally disappears. The lip is narrow and elongated, having a deep magenta color as well. The upper sepal can curve to the front, depending on particular individuals.

PHALAENOPSIS BELLINA CARE AND CULTURE

Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.

Light:

Phalaenopsis bellina needs a light level of 13000-16000 lux. It must however be protected from direct sunlight. The recommend photoperiod is 11-12 hours.

Temperature:

It is a plant with warm thermal requirements; the recommended temperatures are 24-26 ° C during the day and 19-20 ° C during the night. In the summer they can be even higher, but in this case it is also necessary to raise the humidity of the air.

Humidity:

If The Beautiful Phalaenopsis is grown in pots, it has no special requirements for high humidity; 50% can also be good. If it is bare root, the degree of humidity must be much higher: 80% at least.

Substrate, growing media and repotting:

Phalaenopsis bellina can be grown both in pots (choosing the medium-small bark as substrate), or mounted on a raft (in this case do not forget to put a sphagnum layer between the roots of the orchid and the raft: this it will serve as a moisture reserve). When we place the plant we will have to make sure to allow its stem to take a pending, not vertical position. In nature this species is hanging, letting rainwater slide down from the leaves and not allowing it to accumulate in the center of the stem, causing rottenness.

Watering:

This orchid should gets water regularly throughout the year, as soon as the substrate has dried well but has not yet become completely dry. We should avoid water stagnation at the bottom of the pot and in the saucer; this species is predisposed to easy radical rot due to excess water.

Fertilizer:

The plant should fertilized every 2-3 watering with a special liquid fertilizer for orchids, taking 1/2 of the dose indicated on the vial. About 1 time per month the foliar fertilizations are also very good.

Rest period:

Phalaenopsis bellina does not need to rest for flowering. In winter, the amount of water should be reduced, but they can not remain dry for too long. Fertilization should be reduced or eliminated until spring, when new growths occur and more watering is undertaken.
