Trichoglottis triflora also called as The Three-Flowered Trichoglottis, Saccolabium triflorum, is a species of the genus Trichoglottis. This species was described by Leslie Andrew Garay & Gunnar Seidenfaden in 1972.
IDENTIFY TRICHOGLOTTIS TRIFLORA ORCHID PLANT
Trichoglottis triflora is found growing in southwestern Thailand and Vietnam. It grows epiphytic on tree trunks in forests at elevations of 1100-1200 meters above sea level.
It is a monopodial, miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with clustered erect, 5-15 mm stems carrying 6 to 7, distichous-equitant, recurved, often conduplicate, obtuse and unequally bilobed apically, 2-3.5 cm long and 0.5-0.6 cm wide leaves.
The Three-Flowered Trichoglottis blooms in the spring and summer on a short, axillary, 2 to 5 flowered inflorescence with the flowers held close to the stem. The flowers are 0.5 cm in diameter and not opening widely, slightly fleshy. Sepals and petals are white or light yellow with the centers blotched or solid olive-brown. The labellum is white with some purple spots in the center.
TRICHOGLOTTIS TRIFLORA ORCHID PLANT CARE AND CULTURE
Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.
Light:
Trichoglottis triflora needs a light level of 25000-30000 lux. The plant must be protected from direct sunlight. The ideal photoperiod is 12 hours.
The ideal temperatures in summer are at 26-29 ° C during the day and 18-21 ° C at night. In winter the temperature are at 24-25 ° C during the day and 13-16 ° C at night. However, it also adapts well to home temperatures if a daily overhang of at least 4 ° C is ensured between day and night.
Humidity:
The Three-Flowered Trichoglottis need the humidity of 75-80% in summer, 60% in winter. Good air movement should be ensured.
Substrate, growing media and repotting:
Trichoglottis triflora is best to mounted cause their roots are sensitive to excess water and need good ventilation.. The plant can also be grown in pot or basket using medium sized bark (2-4 cm) or sphagnum moss as a substrate.
Watering:
During the growing period the plant are regularly and abundantly gets wet, allowing the roots to dry between waterings. In winter, if the orchid starts to slow down or stops altogether, the wetting becomes more occasional; vaporization also works every 3-5 days (depending on where and how the plant is grown). If you notice signs of stress (wrinkled leaves, roots that start to dry), you need to increase the water. In April, the waterings return to summer levels.
The Three-Flowered Trichoglottis is fertilized by using 1/3 of the dose indicated on the bottle of a special liquid fertilizer for orchids which is added to the water used for watering. In winter, if the plant enters the resting period, the fertilizations are suspended until spring.
Rest period:
In their natural habitat, from December to March, Trichoglottis triflora undergoes the dry period characterized by less rains, during which it slows down or stops its growth. In this period the rains are rare and the temperatures are a bit lower than in the summer. In cultivation, however, it is possible to avoid the actual resting period by observing the plant: if it keeps growing, we continue to wet as before; if it slows it down, we adapt and reduce the amount of water and the frequency of watering until the arrival of spring.
