IDENTIFY ADENIUM OBESUM SUCCULENTS PLANT
Adenium obesum is native to the Sahel regions, south of the Sahara (from Mauritania and Senegal to Sudan), and tropical and subtropical eastern and southern Africa and Arabia.
It is an evergreen or drought-deciduous succulent shrub with thick stems, a powerful swollen caudex and a spreading crown, which with age becomes more dense. It is an evergreen, but it can shed its leaves during drought and cold periods.
The flowers are bisexual, very showy, are collected in more or less dense umbrella-shaped inflorescences, which are located above the leaves. The color varies from red and pink to white, often with a whitish tint at the entrance to the mouth.
All parts of the plant are very poisonous, so you need to keep it out of reach of children and pets. Desert Rose should be handled with care, avoid direct contact with it, gloves should be worn when caring for the plant.
ADENIUM OBESUM SUCCULENTS PLANT CARE AND CULTURE
Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.
Light:
Adenium obesum succulents is best to grow this species in a bright but diffused light, remembering that the caudex is very sensitive to sunburn. In the shade the plant is drawn out and blooms badly.
Temperature:
Desert Rose is sensitive to sub-zero temperatures. When grown indoors, the minimum temperature in winter should not be below 10 ° C. With a sharp change in temperature, the plant can partially lose foliage.
Substrate, growing media and repotting:
This plant should be planted in a pot with large drainage holes on the sides and bottom, filled with a very porous loose soil. To obtain such a substrate in the usual soil mixture or soil for cacti need to add pumice, perlite, sand or brick chips. When planting, care must be taken that the main part of the roots is below the caudex line.
You should not take too deep a pot, it can provoke the drawing out of the underground part of caudex. Transplanting should be done frequently, until the plant reaches the desired size.
Watering:
Water the plant better early in the morning. Water should be poured until the soil is well saturated with moisture and the water starts to flow from below. During the growing season to water as they dry, not allowing the soil to dry out too often, otherwise the plant will hibernate ahead of time. In winter, Adenium obesum is watered very rarely.
Fertilizer:
In order for Sabi star to develop a powerful caudex and bloom abundantly, during the period of active growth it needs regular fertilizing with fertilizer rich in potassium, phosphorus and trace elements, but with a low nitrogen content.
Rest period:
Adenium obesum succulents need a dry and cool winter, at a temperature of 10 ° C.
Trim:
The appearance of the plant depends on pruning. In order for the plant to form numerous twigs, cut better over the leaves, and not under them. Pinching and pruning done once a year during the growing season. Winter pruning usually does not allow for strong branching.
Bonsai:
Adenium obesum succulents is suitable for bonsai. It grows relatively quickly, so that a seedling can turn into an original bonsai in about five years. Many specimens develop large twisted roots of interesting shape. Branches can be formed with a wire and cut or pinch their growing tips to make the plant branch and maintain a compact look.
Reproduction:
Desert Rose is propagated by seed, graft or cuttings. Seeds are sown in the spring, spreading superficially on a special soil mixture for germinating seeds. Seeds germinate easily. Seedlings do not require special care. Numerous hybrids are propagated mainly by grafting on rootstocks obtained from seedlings. Plants grown from seeds, most often at a young age, develop powerful caudex. Cutting is best done in spring. It is necessary to cut off the top of the shoot, let the slice dry for one or two days, and then plant the cutting in the lower heated pot filled with coarse-grained soil mixture. The soil should be kept wet.
