Ceratocentron fesselii also called as Fessel's Ceratocentron, Tuberolabium calcaratum, is a species of the genus Ceratocentron. This species was described by Karlheinz Senghas in 1989.
IDENTIFY CERATOCENTRON FESSELII ORCHID PLANT
Ceratocentron fesselii is found only in the mountains of Nueva Ecija (Luzon Island). It grow on tree trunks in primary and secondary forests at low altitudes.
It is a mini-miniature sized, cool growing, monopodial epiphyte with an erect, monopodial growth habit with 3 to 5, very leathery, dark green, elliptic, obtuse leaves that are basally conduplicate and clasping the stem.
Fessel's Ceratocentron blooms in the winter on an axillary, erect, short, 1 to 1.5 cm long, 2 to 5 flowered, often more than one inflorescence per leaf axil.
CERATOCENTRON FESSELII ORCHID PLANT CARE AND CULTURE
Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.
Light:
Ceratocentron fesselii needs a light level of 20000-30000 lux. The direct summer sun must be shielded during the hottest hours. The ideal photoperiod is 12 hours.
Temperature:
The summer's temperature is at 24-27 ° C during the day and 18-19 ° C at night Winter temperature is at 25-26 ° C during the day and 16-17 ° C at night.
Humidity:
Fessel's Ceratocentron need the humidity level of 85-90%. Strong air movement is recommended.
Substrate, growing media and repotting:
Ceratocentron fesselii is best when mounted on a raft: its roots need excellent ventilation. If we grow it in pot, we do not put the sphagnum under or above the roots; if instead it is in an environment with dry air, a thin layer of sphagnum would guarantee a reserve of humidity.
Watering:
During the period of growth (April-November) the cultivated plant is abundantly get water 1-2 times a day. In winter, the amounts of water are reduced and vaporized slightly 1 time a day with an abundant wetting every 5 days. If the leaves start to show signs of wrinkling, the water is increased.
Every 7 days during the growth period, using 1/4 - 1/5 of the dose indicated on the bottle of a special fertilizer for orchids. In winter the fertilizations are suspended.
Rest period:
In its natural habitat there are the dry season (December-April) and that of the rains (whose peak is in July-August). Ceratocentron fesselii, however, never undergoes the true drought thanks to the abundant dews and the humidity present in the air during the dry period, so its winter rest is not very pronounced. Let's say that for two / three months of winter it is necessary to reduce a little the watering, eliminate the fertilizer and lower the temperatures by 1-2 degrees, but the water should never be missing for more than two days in a row (I would recommend the daily morning steaming).
