IDENTIFY MACROCLINIUM MANABINUM
Macroclinium manabinum is native to Ecuador. This orchid was found for the first time in the western province of Manabi, about 8 km east of Manta. These plants grow in dry, tropical forests on the higher slopes of Monticristi, at an altitude of about 300 m. They are also found in several other locations in the province of Manabi, at heights of 100-370 m.
It is a miniature sized, hot growing epiphyte, which reaching 4 cm in size, with equitant, distichous, red-green, 7 to 10, 4 cm long and 0.7 cm wide, obliquely-elliptic, somewhat falcate-incurved, acute, very conduplicate into the leaf bearing sheaths.
The Manabi Macroclinium blooms in the winter and spring on a 3" (7.5 cm) long, 11 to 17 flowered inflorescence. The flowers are pale pink with darker pink stripes on the petals of the inner whorl. Sepals are freely spaced, narrow elliptical, with sharp tips. The petals are narrow-ovoid, sprawling, with sharp, slightly curved tips. The base of the lip is a narrow claw, on the sides of which is a pair of small round, ears-like processes. The lip is shaped like an arrowhead with an acute apex. The column is thin, clavate, with a bent apex.
MACROCLINIUM MANABINUM CARE AND CULTURE
Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.
Light:
Macroclinium manabinum needs a light level of 12000-20000 lux.
Temperature:
It is a thermophilic plant. Throughout the year, the average day temperature is 27-29 ° C, night 18-21 ° C, with a daily difference of 8-10 ° C.
Humidity:
The Manabi Macroclinium needs the humidity of 75-80% throughout the year.
Substrate, growing media and repotting:
Because of the miniature size, Macroclinium manabinum is usually grown on rootstocks.
Watering:
The plants should be rather abundantly watered during active growth, but they must dry out between watering. The amount of water should be reduced from mid-autumn.
Fertilizer:
During the active growth of the plant should be fertilized every week 1/4-1/2 of the recommended dose of fertilizer for orchids.
Rest period:
From late autumn until spring, Macroclinium manabinum must dry between waterings, but they can not stay dry for a long time. In general, a sufficient amount of moisture provides a fairly frequent morning fogging between uncommon waterings. If the leaves begin to wrinkle, the amount of water can be slightly increased. Fertilization should be eliminated until spring, when resuming abundant watering.
