Bulbophyllum corolliferum is native to Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, India and Singapore. Bulbophyllum corolliferum care and culture

It is a miniature to small sized, hot growing epiphyte which reaching 20 cm in height, with garlic shaped, shortly ovoid, irregularity 4 to 5 sided, truncate pseudobulbs of 1.5-2.0 cm long with a single, apical, oblanceolate, obtuse and emarginate, tapered below to a shortly petiolate leaf up to 18 cm long and 3 cm wide.

The Wreath Carrying Cirrhopetalum blooms in the fall on a basal, slender, reddish, 4.4 to 5.6" (11 to 14 cm) long inflorescence with 8 to 10 flowers held in an umbel beneath the leaf. The flowers are about 2 cm long and have very different colors. The most popular form are usually whole purple except for the yellowish or white lip and white tips of the lateral outer petals, another form is white flowers with more or less purple veins, and may be entirely pink-purple except the white tips of the side petals. The concave, pointed upper calyx is directed forward, forming a semblance of a hood. On the edges of the sepal is covered with rather long and thick purple hairs. The lateral sepals are connected with each other almost from the very base to the apexes. The petals are slightly smaller than the upper sepals and also have a sharp tip and hairs at the edges.

Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.

Light:

Bulbophyllum corolliferum needs a light level of 15000-25000 lux. The light should be filtered or dispersed, and plants should never be exposed to direct sunlight. Constant, strong air movement is recommended.

Temperature:

It is a thermophilic plant. Throughout the year, the average day temperature is 28-31 ° C, the night 19-21 ° C, with a daily difference of 8-12 ° C.

Humidity:

The Wreath Carrying Cirrhopetalum needs a humidity level of almost 80% for most of the year. The average humidity reaches almost 85% over a period of about a month in autumn, before it drops to almost 65% for a period of about one month at the end of winter.

Substrate, growing media and repotting:

Bulbophyllum corolliferum can be mounted on tree rootstocks or cork as long as we can provide high humidity, summer watering at least once a day, and may require several waterings during the day of very hot and dry weather. This plant can also grow in baskets or flat pots filled with any loose, quickly drying and slowly decomposing ground.

These plants should be moved as little as possible. If repotting is necessary, it is best to do it when new roots begin to grow, because then the plants will stabilize faster.

Watering:

Bulbophyllum corolliferum should be kept in moisture with only little drying between watering. But the roots can never be in a soggy or damp ground. When new growths reach maturity in autumn, the amount of water should be slightly reduced.

Fertilizer:

It is recommended to feed weekly 1/4-1/2 fertilizer doses for orchids. You can apply a balanced fertilizer all year round, and you can use a nitrogen fertilizer from spring to mid-summer, and then to phosphorus fertilizer before autumn.

Rest period:

In winter, Bulbophyllum corolliferum need less water, especially in the conditions of a short, dark day at moderate latitudes, but they should never dry up completely. When the amount of water decreases, fertilization should also be reduced.
