It is a small sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with 3-7 leaves per plant. The leaves are 25-36 cm long, oval, fleshy, dark green with silver markings on the upper surface and purple on the underside.

The Philippine Phalaenopsis blooms on an axillary, erect to semi-pendulous, freely branching inflorescence. Mature plants can produce over 100 flowers that open simultaneously. They are 6-9 cm in diameter, flat, with a delicate texture and have wide flakes of inner whorl. Initially, they are pink, but over time they change color to white. The side petals have red spots at the bases. The white lip is anchor-shaped and bright yellow or green and red in the side plots.

PHAPLAENOPSIS PHILIPPINENSIS CARE AND CULTURE

Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.

Light:

Phalaenopsis philippinensis requires bright filtered light for good growth and flowering, about 10000-12000 lux. For placement, you can use the eastern, south-eastern or western windows. Ideally is a combination of placement: from March to October this orchid is placed in the east, and from October to March in the south or west windows.

Temperature:

The average temperature of the summer day is 31-33 ° C, the night 21-23 ° C, and the daily difference is 9-10 ° C. The temperature of the winter day is 28-31 ° C, night 19-21 ° C.

Humidity:

Phalaenopsis philippinensis needs a humidity level of 85-90%. Humidity is very high, and the microclimate near the streams still increases it. It is necessary to regularly ventilate the room where the plants are kept, because wet, stale air is an ideal medium for the mass reproduction of various fungal and bacterial diseases.

Substrate, growing media and repotting:

Due to the hanging habit, these plants are good to grow on rootstocks. When growing in pots, a mixture of 12-16 mm bark with moisture retaining additives or sphagnum with thick perlite or charcoal is recommended.

Repotting is better done when new roots grow, best in March. This orchid needs to repotted every 2-3 years or in case of the substrate decomposed.

Watering:

The frequency and abundance of watering this species directly depends on the overall temperature of the content and intensity of the illumination, the higher they are, the more often and abundant it is necessary to water. In normal conditions, the plant needs water about once a week and should be constantly moist.

Fertilizer:

It is recommended that 1/4-1/2 doses of fertilizer for orchids applied every week or every 2 weeks in the growing season. The best fertilizer is fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in equal parts, for example, NPK = 3-3-3 or 8-8-8. If you do not have such fertilizer, then at the beginning of the growing season, feed the orchid with the fertilizer of large content of nitrogen, and a little later - fertilizer with a higher content of phosphorus.

Rest period:

Phalaenopsis philippinensis needs a winter rest. During the rest period, watering is significantly reduced to once in 2-3 weeks, the plants should be constantly moist and the light level increased.
