IDENTIFY DENDROBIUM HYMENANTHUM
Dendrobium hymenanthum is widely distributed and popular in many areas. Natural habitats include western Thailand, the Tenasserim region in Myanmar, the Thai peninsula, Malaysia, Vietnam, Borneo and the Philippines. In the Philippines, these plants grow almost at sea level on the island of Luzon in the provinces of Bataan, Quezon and Rizal. They are also found on the islands of Polillo, a group of small islands east of the coast of the island of Luzon.
It is a mini-miniature sized, hot growing epiphyte, which reaching the height of 10 cm, with slender, rigid, erect, sharply 4 angled, 3-8 cm long stems carrying 2, apical, oblong, leathery, 2-3 cm long leaves.
The Membranous Dendrobium blooms in the late spring or early summer on an axillary, very short, single flowered, fragrant inflorescence that arises from the nodes near the apex of the cane and between the leaves with short-lived, fragrant, successively opening flowers. The flowers have the shape of a half-open fan and 1-2 cm in length. Outer petals and longitudinal petals of the inner whorl are white to yellowish-white and have a delicate texture. The lip is colored yellow and purple at the base. It has a small, hairy comb near the apex and 2 small bulges in the middle of the length.
DENDROBIUM HYMENANTHUM CARE AND CULTURE
Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.
Light:
Dendrobium hymenanthum needs a light level of 25000-35000 lux.
Temperature:
Throughout the year the average day temperature is 30-34 ° C, night 21-24 ° C, giving a daily difference of 7-11 ° C.
Humidity:
In summer and autumn, The Membranous Dendrobium need the average humidity of 80-85%, and falling to around 70% at the end of winter and spring.
Substrate, growing media and repotting:
Dendrobium hymenanthum can be mounted on tree ferns or cork, if high humidity is ensured and watering is done at least once a day in summer. When growing in pots, you can use any loose, quickly drying media. Repotting is best done in early spring, when new roots begin to grow.
Watering:
Precipitation is abundant from the end of spring to autumn, but 4 winter months are quite dry. The plants should be kept constantly moist during active growth, but in the autumn the amount of water should be gradually reduced.
Fertilizer:
It is recommended to apply a 1/4-1/2 dose of orchid fertilizer weekly. From spring to mid summer, fertilizer with an increased nitrogen content is preferred, and fertilizer with an increased content of phosphorus should be used at the end of summer and autumn.
Rest period:
A dry winter rest period is necessary to initiate flowering. The amount of water should be limited for the period of 3-4 winter months. Dendrobium hymenanthum should lightly dry between watering, but they can not stay dry for too long. When the plants do not show active growth, fertilization should also be reduced.
