GROW AND CARE PHALAENOPSIS COCHLEARIS ORCHID

Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.

Light:

This plant needs a light level of 800-1200 FC or 8608-12912 lux.

Temperature:

The average temperature of the day is 29-30 ° C and during the year it changes only by 2 ° C. The average temperature of the night is the same and changes only by 0.6 ° C during the year. The summer daily difference is 10-11 ° C. The average temperature of the winter day is 28-29 ° C, night 19 ° C, giving a smaller daily difference of 9-10 ° C.

Humidity:

Phalaenopsis cochlearis orchid needs a humidity of 80-85%. High humidity and excellent air movement are especially important.

Substrate and growing media:

The substrate must be a mixture of 12-16 mm bark with moisture retaining additives or sphagnum with perlite or charcoal added to improve breathability. Small pieces of limestone can be added to the substrate. Limestone is beneficial for the plant provided it is used for watering at 21 ° C.

Watering:

Plants should be constantly moist throughout the year. It is suggested to water it with warm water at a temperature of about 21 ° C.

Fertilizer:

It is recommended that 1/4-1/2 doses of fertilizer for orchids applied every week or every 2 weeks in the growing season.

Rest period and repotting:

The plant does not tolerate large temperature fluctuations. The amount of water and the humidity level should be maintained all year round. In winter, the light level is a bit lower.
Repotting can be performed after flowering or when new roots are actively growing. When repotting, do not shorten planar roots found in a large number of roots, because they grow and age and branch out.
