Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.

Light:

The Philippine Paphiopedilum need a light level of 25000-35000 lux. The plant needs bright, slightly diffused light and protection from direct sunlight. 10-11 hours of bright light is needed every day to induce flowering. To initiate flowering, it is necessary to ensure the maximum possible dose of light so as not to burn the leaves. A constant strong ventilation is necessary.

Temperature:

The plant is thermophilic. In summer the average day temperature is 29 ° C, the night 23-24 ° C, which gives a daily difference of 6 ° C. In winter, the average day temperature is 27-28 ° C, night 21-22 ° C, with a daily amplitude of 6 ° C.

Humidity:

Paphiopedilum philippinense orchid needs about 80-85% of humidity for most of the year, and decreasing by 1-2 months in late winter and spring to almost 75%.

Substrate and growing media:

This Paphiopedilum orchid grows well in various substrates, so any loose, water-conducting substrate that partially holds moisture, but does not get soaked, can be used. After a few years, these plants grow very much, their upper part becomes hard, so it is easier to deal with it, if it is planted in a heavy, quite flat, ceramic pot with a wide base.

The accumulation of mineral salts in the pot should be prevented by rinsing it periodically.

Watering:

In the habitats of these orchids, for most of the year, a lot of precipitation falls, the number of which decreases only at the end of winter and early spring, when a 2-3 month semi-dry period occurs. In the culture, the plant needs to be watered for the most part of the year, and between each watering should only slightly dry out.

Fertilizer:

This plant needs to weekly feed 1/10-1/4 of the recommended dose of fertilizer for orchids. In the period of active growth, a fertilizer with a high nitrogen content should be used, and in the middle of summer switch to a fertilizer with high phosphorus content to improve flowering and strengthen young growths before winter.

Rest period and repotting:

In winter, the plants that grow need less water. They should dry a little between watering, but they can not stay dry for a long period of time. Fertilization should be reduced until more intense watering starts in the spring.

Although these plants seem to tolerate the older substrate, they will certainly grow better if the substrate is not spread or soggy. But Paphiopedilum philippinense orchid should be repotted every 2-3 years. Plants can be repotted regardless of the season, but this is usually done in autumn or spring. New growths do not produce roots for 1-2 years, so plants should be divided carefully, because it is important that each separated part has an increase with a certain number of roots.
