Maxillaria confusa, also called as Confounded Maxillaria, is a species of the genus Maxillaria. This species was described by Oakes Ames and Charles Schweinfurth in 1925.
DESCRIPTION OF MAXILLARIA CONFUSA - CONFOUNDED MAXILLARIA
Maxillaria confusa is native to Central America to Colombia. It is found growing in pastures and open semi-evergreen forests in Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panamá at elevations of 0-1450 meters above sea level.
It is a miniature to small sized, hot to cool growing, cespitose epiphyte which reaching 8-30 cm in height. The pseudobulbs are glabrous, compressed, orbicular to elliptic, unifoliate, with a truncate apex, 1.5-3.5 cm long, partially enveloped basally by a few scarious, leafless sheaths. The single leaf is apical, narrowly ellptical to ligulate, with conspicuous white veins, subcoriaceous, retuse, basally conduplicate into the base, 7-20 cm long including the 0.5-4 cm long petiole.
Confounded Maxillaria blooms in summer and the fall from the several, 4 cm long, single flowered inflorescence that arising from the base of a mature pseudobulb and enveloped completely by several, imbricating, loose, acuminate bracts. The flowers are 2.2 cm in diameter, white, underside of the lip is red violet and the nerves on top of the lip’s lateral lobes are red violet.
