Promenaea Meadow Gold is a hybrid, whose parents are the hybrid orchid Promenaea Limelight (Promenaea ovatiloba x Promenaea stapelioides) and the Promenaea xanthina.

IDENTIFY PROMENAEA MEADOW GOLD ORCHID HYBRID

It is a hybrid of the Promenaea genus with two-leafed, ovate, slightly flattened, about 2 cm long and 1.5 cm wide pseudobulbs and lanceolate, very thin, reaching up to 8-10 cm long leaves.

Promenaea Meadow Gold orchid hybrid care and culture

Promenaea Meadow Gold blooms from about 10 cm long peduncles which appear at the base of pseudobulbs (usually at least two for each pseudobulb). The flowers are green-yellow with red or red-brown spots (the number of spots varies from specimen to specimen, sometimes there are plants practically without them), about 4 cm in diameter.

Depending on some peculiarities in the structure of the flower itself and the color variants, one distinguishes: Promenaea Meadow Gold 'Dahlenburg' and Promenaea Meadow Gold 'Sunny Boy'.

PROMENAEA MEADOW GOLD ORCHID HYBRID CARE AND CULTURE

Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.

Light:

Promenaea Meadow Gold can be grow in bright scattered light. Oriental orientations are considered to be the ideal place of cultivation, however, if there are not any such in the apartment, then you can use western or very bright northern windows. If the western or southern windows were chosen for the location of the plant, then during the period from May to early September, the orchid should be protected from the influence of too bright day and evening sun - put behind a curtain (for example, on a table near a window) or into the shade of other plants.

Temperature:

This hybrid belongs to the moderately cold temperature regime , and it is recommended to keep the orchid under the following conditions throughout the year: Summer temperature t 16-22 ° C; Winter temperature at 12-15 ° C. To successfully cultivate at home, it is necessary that the night temperature of the contents is always at least 5 ° C lower than the daytime temperature.

Humidity:

Promenaea Meadow Gold needs the humidity level of about 60% or higher. In conditions of high humidity, it is necessary to regularly ventilate the room where the plants are kept, since wet, stale air is an ideal medium for the mass reproduction of various fungal and bacterial diseases.

Substrate, growing media and repotting:

This orchid hybrid can be grow in small clay pots or hanging lattice baskets and placed on blocks. As a substrate, a mixture of a large bark of coniferous trees with charcoal, roots of Osmund fern and sphagnum moss (up to 60%) is best. When growing orchids on blocks to prevent rapid drying of the root system of the plant, it is recommended to make a small interlayer of moss between it and the block. Above the roots, you can also put live or dry sphagnum.

Repotting is desirable only in cases of severe compaction or salinization of the substrate, at its critically high or low (pH 5.5 to 6.5) pH, or when the plant grows very large and the pot it will become too small (pseudobulbs will begin to hang from the sides of the pot). The best time to transplant is the time when new orchid sprouts begin to build up their own roots.

Watering:

Watering this hybrid directly depends on the overall temperature of the content, the higher it is, the more often and abundant it will be necessary to water, and vice versa. Plants growing on blocks, it is desirable to water daily in the morning, so that by evening the roots of the orchids could dry out relatively well. When watering orchids in pots, it is necessary to remember that excess water during watering should flow freely out of the pot, as the stagnation of water both inside the pot and in its pallet can very quickly lead to rotting of the roots and the lower part of the plant. Within an hour after watering, the accumulation of water in the sinuses between the leaves of new shoots needs to be removed using dry paper handkerchiefs or napkins for this purpose, since the orchid leaves are very sensitive and can be bent or covered with black dry stains, the causes of which in winter may become fungal diseases, and in summer - a pinpoint burn. The substrate between waterings should be relatively dry, but not completely dry, i.e. always be in a slightly moistened state.

Fertilizer:

During the new growth period, this hybrid is fertilized for every third watering in 1/3 or 1/4 of the fertilizer concentration indicated on the package. In addition to the usual root top dressing, it is also recommended to produce a foliar dressing, when a very much diluted fertilizer is sprayed on the outer part of the plant. It is best to feed the orchid, alternating both these methods. At the beginning of the growing season (the emergence of new shoots), it is desirable to use a fertilizer with a high nitrogen content, and when a new sprout reaches 2/3 of its habitual size - a fertilizer with a higher phosphorus content.

Rest period:

According to the climatic features in the homeland of the parents of this Promenaea Meadow Gold in the process of its life, this hybrid undergoes two periods of rest: before and after flowering.

The first rest period begins approximately 10-14 days before the maturation of new pseudobulbs, i.e. when new young shoots develop sufficiently well and begin to round up, acquiring features of pseudobulbs. From this point on, watering the plants considerably reduces and produces it a little bit (it can be done by light spraying) only when the substrate in which the orchid grows will not only dry completely, but it will also be completely dry for at least 3-4 days. The total temperature of the content should preferably be reduced to 15-16 ° C in the daytime and 12 ° Cat night. This is necessary for the plant to be as comfortable as possible to survive the dry period and not to discard the leaves. However, the lowering of temperatures is not a prerequisite for stimulation of flowering and is generally recommended only if Promenaea Meadow Gold during vegetation (development of new shoots) is kept at temperatures above 20-22 ° C. With the advent of the peduncles this period of rest is over and the watering of the orchid resumes in the usual mode.

Immediately after flowering, Promenaea Meadow Gold provides another, relatively short dormancy period, necessary for the plant to rest after flowering. According to its requirements, it is similar to the first, but last no more than 2-3 weeks, usually ending with the appearance of new shoots. However, it is not uncommon for a new growth to begin even at the time of flowering, in this case this period of rest can be neglected.
