IDENTIFY PHALAENOPSIS BARBARA MOLER X VENOSA ORCHID HYBRID

It is a monopodial orchid, consisting of a fairly soft hanging (lying on its side) stalk, densely covered with leaves. The leaves are elongated-oval, light green, sometimes with a slightly yellowish tinge, measuring up to 15-17 cm in length and about 7 cm in width. Peduncles hanging, short enough, in length reach from 8 to 15 cm.

This hybrid refers to the "revolver" type of flowering, i.e. the flowers in the orchid are blossomed in small batches, maximum 2-3 pieces per flower stem (usually one by one), after the first batch becomes faded, the flower spoon slightly lengthens and more and more buds are formed.

The flowers are orange-yellow, densely strewn with darker specks, about 7 cm in diameter. Petals and sepals in shape oval, about 4 cm in length and 2.3 cm in width, as a rule, petals are slightly shorter. The lip is triple, about 2 cm long and 1.4 cm wide, its lateral parts straight, long, yellow at the base and purple at the tips, and the front part of the lip resembles a rhombus, an intense violet color.

PHALAENOPSIS BARBARA MOLER X VENOSA ORCHID HYBRID CARE AND CULTURE

Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.

Light:

Phalaenopsis Barbara Moler x venosa is grown both in bright scattered light and in partial shade. The ideal location is considered to be the south-east orientation, but if there are not any, then you can use the western or southern windows. If the western or southern windows were chosen for the location of the plant, then during the period from May to early September, the orchid should be protected from the influence of too bright day and evening sun - put behind a curtain (for example, on a table near a window) or into the shade of other plants.

Temperature:

This hybrid belongs to a moderately warm temperature regime, and it is recommended to keep the orchids under the following conditions throughout the year: Day temperature at 20-28 ° C, Night temperature at 16-20 ° C. For the successful cultivation at home, it is necessary that the night temperature of the content is always 4 ° C lower than the daytime temperature.

Humidity:

This orchid hybrid needs the humidity level of at least 50-60%. The higher temperature rises, the higher the humidity of the air, and the higher the humidity of the air, the more often and longer it is necessary to ventilate the room where the orchids are kept, otherwise the probability of decay and appearance of various kinds of fungal diseases on the leaves is more.

Substrate, growing media and repotting:

Phalaenopsis Barbara Moler x venosa can grow in plastic and clay pots and placed on blocks. As a substrate, the mixture of the bark of coniferous trees and moss sphagnum in a proportion of 4: 1 is best. When growing orchids on blocks to prevent rapid drying of the root system of the plant, it is recommended to make a small interlayer of moss between it and the block. Above the roots, you can also put live or dry sphagnum.

From frequent irrigation and fertilizer, the substrate quickly decomposes and loses its main useful property for orchids - air permeability, therefore it is recommended to replant at least every 2-3 years. The best time for this is considered the period immediately after flowering.

Watering:

Watering this hybrid directly depends on the total temperature of the content, the higher it is, the more often and abundant it is necessary to water. Plants growing on blocks should be watered daily in the morning, so that by evening the roots of the orchids could dry out relatively well. When watering orchids in pots, it is necessary to remember that excess water during watering should flow freely out of the pot, as the stagnation of water both inside the pot and in its pallet can very quickly lead to rotting of the roots and the lower part of the plant. Within an hour after watering, it is necessary to remove the water that has accumulated in the core of the plant, using for this purpose paper handkerchiefs or napkins, since the prolonged occurrence of water in this place leads to decay. The substrate between watering should dry well.

On hot summer days, daily spraying of the outer part of the plant is recommended, which will additionally increase the humidity of the air around the orchid and help it better survive the heat. Spray the plant only in the first half of the day, so that by evening the orchid could dry out relatively well.

Fertilizer:

During the whole year, this hybrid is fertilized for every third watering in 1/2 of the fertilizer concentration indicated on the package. In addition to the usual root top dressing, it is also recommended to produce a foliar dressing, when a very much diluted fertilizer is sprayed on the outer part of the plant. It is best to feed the orchid, alternating both these methods. The best fertilizer is fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in equal parts, for example, NPK = 3-3-3 or 8-8-8. If you do not have such a fertilizer, then at the beginning of the growing season (the appearance of new leaves), feed the orchid with a fertilizer with a high nitrogen content, and when the leaves grow less, they will be fertilized with a higher content of phosphorus.

Rest period:

Phalaenopsis Barbara Moler x venosa does not need a period of rest to stimulate flowering. After flowering, the flower stalk is removed only when it begins to dry up on its own, as one of the features of the orchids of this group is a repeated flowering on the same peduncle. As a rule, after the first 5 flowers bloom, the tip of the peduncle lengthens and the next batch of flowers is formed.
