It is a medium sized, cold growing epiphyte, which reaching 30 cm in height, with a closely set, elliptic-ovoid, smooth, laterally compressed, ancipitous, longitudinally rugose with age, 8 cm long and 3 cm wide at the base pseudobulb subtended by 3 to 4 scarious leaf-bearing sheaths and has 2 apical, lanceolate, conduplicate towards the short, petiole-like base, up to 22 cm long and 3 cm wide leaves.

Kegel's Odontoglossum gives rise to an axillary, erect to slightly arching, 32.5 cm long, paniculate inflorescence arising on a newly maturing pseudobulb with 5 to 12 fragrant flowers occurring in the spring. The flowers are wide spread, fragrant, shiny, with petals of both whorls of lemon-yellow color with a small amount of nut-brown spots. The spots on the inner whorl flakes are smaller than those on the outer whorl flakes and are arranged only near the base of the petals. The flowers are up to 7.5 cm in diameter. The claw and the part at the base of the lip are yellowish-white. The greater part of the lip, however, is chocolate-brown with a narrow, white border. The thickening on the lip is white, and the stump and wings of the spine are milky white with a few brown dots on the wings.

Temperature:

It is a plant with moderate thermal requirements. The average temperature of the summer day is 21-22 ° C, night 10-11 ° C, giving a daily difference of 11-13 ° C. Low night temperatures are important because they can help overcome the bad impact of hot days. The average temperature of the winter day is 19 ° C, the night 8-9 ° C, giving a daily difference of 10-11 ° C.

Humidity:

Kegel's Odontoglossum needs the humidity of almost 75% throughout the year.

Substrate, growing media and repotting:

You can use any loose, fast-drying substrate.

Watering:

Precipitation measured at the given station is small to moderate throughout the year, with a slightly drier period in winter and early spring. The cultivated plants should often be watered during the growing season, but excellent drainage must be ensured so that the roots can dry quickly after watering.
