They were found in the Tungurahua Province on the Tungurahua volcano at an altitude of 3050-3350 m. Since then, it has been found both on the eastern and western slopes of the Andes, including in the province of Tungurahua near Baños at an altitude of 1800-3200 m, in the Province of Napo between Papallacta and Baeza at an altitude of 2050 m, and in the Province of Pichincha on the new road between Quito and Santo Domingo at an altitude of 2000-2500 m. They grow as lithophytes on the walls gorges at high altitude, in damp mountain forests. They were also found in northern Peru in the Amazonas department, where they grew in the lower parts of very humid mountain forests, usually high on exposed branches, at heights of 2100-2300 m.
