 Sigmatostalix picturatissima also called as The Extremely Colorful Sigmatostalix, Oncidium picturatissimum, Sigmatostalix occultans, Sigmatostalix racemifera, is a species of the genus Sigmatostalix. This species was described by Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Kraenzlin in 1922.

IDENTIFY SIGMATOSTALIX PICTURATISSIMA

 Sigmatostalix picturatissima is native to Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. In Costa Rica, these plants were encountered northwest of San José in the Province of Alajuela, at an altitude of 1000 m. In Panama, they were encountered in the hills north of El Valle de Antón at an altitude of 800-1000 m. In Colombia, they are found in an area where there is hot climate, at altitudes from sea level up to 1000 m. In Ecuador, they were collected in the Province of Morona-Santiago between Limón and Gualaquiza in a very humid forest, at an altitude of 1500 m.

Sigmatostalix picturatissima care and culture

 It is a miniature sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte, which reaching 7-15 cm in height, with a short rhizome carrying, flattened, ovate, 2.0-3.5 cm high and 1-2 cm wide pseudobulbs enveloped basally by 5 to 6 scarious, imbricating sheaths with the uppermost being foliaceous carrying a single, apical, narrowly elliptical, acute, 3-13 cm long leaf that narrows below into a conduplicate petiole.

 The Extremely Colorful Sigmatostalix blooms on a basal through the leaf axils, racemose, erect , 8 cm long, several flowered inflorescence with tiny successively single flowers arising on a facile at each node occurring in the winter, spring and fall. The flowers are 0.5 cm in diameter. They have greenish-white flakes of both whorls, but the petals of the inner whorl have spots of auburn color. The greenish-cream lip has orange spots.
