Dendrobium ochraceum also called as The Ochre-Colored Dendrobium, is a species of the genus Dendrobium. This species was described by De Wildeman in 1906.
IDENTIFY DENDROBIUM OCHRACEUM
Dendrobium ochraceum is native to Northern Vietnam. For the first time, these plants were encountered in the Tonkin region, which covers the entire area now known as Northern Vietnam. They grew at an altitude of around 500 m.
It is a small sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte, which reaching 30 cm in height, with an erect, thin, cylindrical, slightly sulcate, 30 cm long stem carrying several, oblong, unequally bilobed apically, all held in one plane, up to 7.6 cm in length leaves and have sheaths covered in brown hairs.
The Ochre-Colored Dendrobium blooms in the spring on a 1.2 to 2" (3 to 5 cm) long, 2 to 3 flowered inflorescence. The flowers are 3 cm in diameter. Lancet outer petals are curved and have sharpened tops. Smaller, sharp tips of the inner whorl sometimes have wavy edges. The wide, almost square lip is wavy and twisted, and there are 5 radiating stripes at its center. All elements of the flower are yellowish-white.
