Kunstler's Phalaenopsis is native to the Malay Peninsula in the states of Johor and Perach near Ipoh and Tapah, and also in the vicinity of Falam in the Chin mountains in Myanmar. In Falam, there are very cold, dry winters, while in Malaya, the climate does not change much throughout the year. These plants meet at low to moderate elevations in humid lowland forests.

 Phalaenopsis kunstleri orchid, also called as Kunstler's Phalaenopsis, Phalaenopsis fuscata var kunstleri, Polychilos kunstleri, is a species of the genus Phalaenopsis. This species was described by Joseph Dalton Hooker in 1890.

 Phalaenopsis kunstleri blooms in the fall on a suberect to arching, slowly elongating to 16" (to 40 cm) long, 2 to 3 at a time, several flowered, paniculate inflorescence with a few to several flowers. The flowers are 4 cm in diameter and open in turn. They have a star shape, fleshy texture and are fully spread. The petals of both whorls are yellowish to greenish-yellow with large spots in brown or cinnamon. The cup-shaped lip has cinnamon-colored stripes.
