Maxillaria oreocharis, also called as Mountain Loving Maxillaria, Maxillariella oreocharis, is a species of the genus Maxillaria. This species was described by Friedrich Richard Rudolf Schlechter in 1922.
DESCRIPTION OF MAXILLARIA OREOCHARIS - MOUNTAIN LOVING MAXILLARIA
Maxillaria oreocharis is native to Nicaragua to Panama. It is found growing in semi-wet areas in wet montane forests in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panamá at elevations of 100-1100 meters above sea level.
It is a medium sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with elongated rhizome. The pseudobulbs are compressed, pale olive green, elliptic, unifoliate, 2.5 cm long, covered with several brown, imbricate and truncate sheaths. The single leaf is apical, erect, linear, acute, gradually narrowing below into the shortly petiolate, to 22 cm long.
Mountain Loving Maxillaria blooms in late summer through the fall from the erect, basal, single flowered inflorescence that arise from the axil of the new shoot sheath. The flowers are 2.5-3 cm in diameter, showy; sepals with pink stains as fine and red patches; petals cream; lip cream; throat, side lobes and callus suffused red; column light chartreuse; the front of the anther is black-brown.
