Aglaonema Mary Ann, also called as Mary Ann Aglaonema, is a cultivar in the genus Aglaonema. This cultivar was created by Richard J. Button.
DESCRIPTION OF AGLAONEMA MARY ANN
Aglaonema Mary Ann is a cross of unknown parentage. It was discovered and selected from the progeny of the cross by the inventor in Miami, Fla. Asexual propagation by division first carried out by the inventor in Miami, Fla. and later carried out in Zolfo Springs, Fla. was used to increase the number of plants for evaluation and has demonstrated the stability of the characteristics of the new cultivar from generation to generation.
It is an evergreen perennial herb which reaching 11.5 cm to 17.0 cm in height and 54 cm to 59 cm in width with branched, dense, and rapid growth habit. The stem are green, erect with 1.0 cm to 1.6 cm distant internodes. The petioles are dark green, 11.5 cm to 14.0 cm long, with fleshy edges. The leaves are 20 cm to 23.4 cm long by 6.5 cm to 7.2 cm wide, and have dark green background and lighter silvery green irregular base extending from the midrib to near the edge.
Mary Ann Aglaonema blooms usually in summer from the inflorescence that bears unisexual flowers in a spadix, with a short zone of female flowers near the base and a wider zone of male flowers nearer the tip. The fruit is a fleshy berry that ripens red. The fruit is a thin layer covering one large seed.
