Brassolaeliocattleya Momilani Rainbow is an epiphyte with spindle-shaped pseudobulbs which grow at a distance of not more than 1.5 cm to each other, reach up to 15 cm in length, and not more than 2-2.2 cm in width. The leaves are light green, in the bright sun they turn red, measuring 10–17 cm long and 6 cm wide, are pointed at the tips.

This Cattleya hybrid can bloom at any time of the year from the straight, 7-8 cm long peduncles. One peduncle has from 2 to 5 flowers. The flowers radially symmetrical (peloric) with color from white to yellow-pink (the main color of the flower depends on the intensity of illumination) with purple tips on the lips and on the lip, measuring about 10 cm in diameter. Sepalia lanceolate, with pointed tips, 6 cm long and 2.5 cm wide. The petals and the lip are egg-shaped, wavy along the edge, yellow in the middle, purple at the tips, 6 cm long and 4-4.2 cm wide. The flowers lasts about 3 weeks. Under optimal conditions, the plant blooms every 3-4 months.

RHYNCATTLEANTHE MOMILANI RAINBOW ORCHID PLANT CARE AND CULTURE

Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.

Light:

Rhyncattleanthe Momilani Rainbow can be grown both in bright diffused light and in partial shade. It is one of the few representatives of this group of orchids that can adapt to almost any lighting, varying in color and number of colors. Take into account that the plant should be taught gradually to shining sunlight, protecting it from the scorching midday sun at the beginning, placing it behind a curtain or in the shade of other plants, otherwise it may burn. Over time, the plant will be perfectly calm to endure direct sunlight, acquiring a slightly pinkish leaf color.

Temperature:

Brassolaeliocattleya Momilani Rainbow belongs to the intermediate to warm temperature conditions, and throughout the year plants are recommended to be kept under the following temperature conditions: day temperature no higher than 33 ° C and night temperature at 14-18 ° C. For successful cultivation at home, it is necessary that the night temperature always be at least 4 ° C lower than the daily temperature.

Humidity:

Rhyncattleanthe Momilani Rainbow need the humidity of 35-60% during the day and 60-80% at night. In conditions of high humidity, it is necessary to regularly ventilate the room where the plants are kept, since damp, stale air is an ideal medium for mass reproduction of various types of fungal and bacterial diseases.

Substrate, growing media and repotting:

Brassolaeliocattleya Momilani Rainbow is grown mainly in pots, less often in hanging lattice baskets or on blocks. This orchid does not have any special preferences in relation to the substrate and grows well in any commercial mixture based on the bark of coniferous trees, peat and sphagnum moss.

This orchid does not need frequent transplants, therefore, it is desirable to perform this procedure only when it is really necessary. For example, in cases of strong salinization or compaction of the substrate, its critically high or low (the normal is from 5.5 to 6.5) pH, or when the plant grows strongly and the old pot becomes cramped (pseudobulbs begin to hang from the sides of the pot). On average, adults plants are transplanted once every 3-4 years. The best time for transplanting is a period when new, young shoots reach a size of 5 cm and begin to grow their own roots.

Watering:

Watering this hybrid directly depends on the total temperature of the content, the higher it is, the more often it will need to be watered and vice versa. When watering, excess water should flow freely from the pot, since stagnation of water both inside the pot and in its pan can very quickly lead to rotting of the roots and the lower part of the plant. The substrate between waterings should dry well. In other words, you only need to water this orchid when the substrate is completely dry.

Fertilizer:

During the period of new growth fertilize Rhyncattleanthe Burana Beauty for every third watering with 1/2 of the concentration of fertilizer indicated on the package. Their roots are quite sensitive to various kinds of potash, phosphorus, etc. salts contained in the fertilizer, and can deteriorate very quickly. The most sensitive place of the root is its tip, when exposed to too concentrated fertilizer, they turn black and dry out. In addition to the usual root dressing, it is also recommended to produce foliar, when the outer part of the plant is sprayed with very diluted fertilizer. It is best to feed the orchid, alternating between these two methods. At the beginning of the growing season (the emergence of new sprouts), it is recommended to use fertilizer with a high nitrogen content, and by the time new sprouts reach 1/2 of their normal size, fertilizer with a high phosphorus content.

Rest period:

To stimulate flowering, Rhyncattleanthe Momilani Rainbow needs a short rest period (sometime not), which begins shortly before the maturation of new pseudobulbs, i.e. when new, young shoots begin to unfold both their leaves. From this time, this orchid is kept at a temperature not higher than 18 ° C (less often 20 ° C) during the day and around 16 ° C and less watered. It is necessary to make watering only when the substrate is completely dry for 3-4 days. With the appearance of peduncles (usually within 2-3 weeks), the rest period ends and the total temperature of the maintenance increases, and the watering of the orchid is resumed in the usual amount.
