It is a single or growing in small groups epiphytically, stemless, flowering 4-10 cm high, 3-8 cm in diameter, with 20-30, up to 9 cm long, polystichous, densely imbricate, bent and often distinctly secund, soft grey green, densely appressed lepidote, never pruinose, metallic grey green or resembling silvery leaves forming an erect, mostly secund, sub-bulbose rosette. The limbs are triangular, flat or slightly gutter, very flexible.
This air plant bloom from the short, usually simple (rarely branched) inflorescence with a short, polystic spike. The bracts of the flowering stem are reddish or pinkish, similar to the leaves. The primary bracts are equal to or longer than the branches, oval, red or pale salmon pink, slightly scaly. The floral bracts are oval, smooth, keeled, glabrous, pale red or salmon pink. The non-fragrant flowers are non-tubular, 2 cm long, pink or lilac. The stamens and pistil are included.
