It is a medium sized epiphyte or saxicolous(up to 40 or 50 cm wide) with a very beautiful form that has many, quite thick leaves that form a wide rosette. The sheaths are darker than the limb which is triangular. The leaves are greenish-white.
This air plant bloom from the bipinnate (sometimes almost tripinnate), large, exceeding widely the leaves (almost 40 cm) inflorescence. The bracts of the flowering stem and primary bracts are triangular, reddish and overlapping. The floral bracts are oval, scaly and red or pinkish. The non-fragrant flowers are almost sessile, non-tubular, 2 cm long, white in color. The stamens and pistil are included.
