Eurychone galeandrae is found in Zaire, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Central African republic and Angola. This orchid grows in forests and woodlands at elevations around 600 to 700 meters.
Eurychone galeandrae also called as The Galeandra-Like Eurychone, Angorchis galeandrae, Angraecum galeandrae, Angraecum lujae, Rhaphidorhynchus galeandrae, is a species of the genus Eurychone. This species was described by Friedrich Richard Rudolf Schlechter in 1918.
IDENTIFY EURYCHONE GALEANDRAE ORCHID PLANT
Eurychone galeandrae is found in Zaire, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Central African republic and Angola. This orchid grows in forests and woodlands at elevations around 600 to 700 meters.
It is a miniature sized, hot to cool growing, monopodial epiphyte with a short stem, carrying several ligulate, narrowly elliptical or oblanceolate, unequally and obtusely bilobed apically, thick textured, dull olive green leaves.
The Galeandra-Like Eurychone blooms in the winter on a pendant, 7.5 to 15 cm long, 3 to 12 flowered inflorescence with large, fragrant flowers. The rich salmon-pink flowers have darker veins on the spur.
EURYCHONE GALEANDRAE ORCHID PLANT CARE AND CULTURE
Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.
Light:
Eurychone galeandrae needs a light level of 12000-20000 lux. Plants need moderate shade and protection from direct sun. Strong air movement should be provided at all times.
Temperature:
Summer days temperature at average 26-27°C, and nights temperature at average 17°C, with a diurnal range of 10°C.
Humidity:
The Galeandra-Like Eurychone need the humidity of 80-85% most of the year, dropping to near 75% for about 2 months in late winter and early spring.
Substrate, growing media and repotting:
Eurychone galeandrae grows best in an open basket or mounted on slabs of tree-fern or rough bark which display the pendent flower spikes with less damage to the flowers. Mounted plants need high humidity, however, and must be watered or misted at least once a day most of the year. During especially hot, dry weather, they may require several waterings a day.
If it is difficult to keep mounted plants moist enough, then plants may be grown in small, well-drained hanging pots or baskets using a very open, fast-draining medium. Pots or baskets must have excellent drainage and conditions around the roots should never be stale or soggy.
Plants should be repotted immediately if the medium starts to break down, but they are most able to become reestablished if they are repotted just as new roots start to grow.
Watering:
Rainfall in the habitat is heavy most of the year, with 2-3 rather dry months in winter. The cultivated plants should be watered heavily while actively growing. Water should be reduced somewhat in late autumn.
Fertilizer:
1/4–1/2 recommended strength, applied weekly when plants are actively growing. You can use a balanced fertilizer throughout the year; but also can use a high-nitrogen fertilizer from spring to midsummer, then switch to one high in phosphates in late summer and autumn.
Rest period:
Winter days temperature at average 24-25°C, and nights average 14-16°C, with a diurnal range of 10°C. Eurychone galeandrae plants need less in winter, but they should never get completely dry. Fertilizer should be reduced or eliminated when water is reduced.
