Angraecum eichlerianum is found in Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo, Zaire and Angola. They grow in dense, undisturbed forests, sometimes forming a dense mass at elevations around 150 meters.
Angraecum eichlerianum also called as Eichler's Angraecum, Angraecum arnoldianum, Angraecum eichlerianum var. curvicalcaratum, Eichlerangraecum eichlerianum, Eichlerangraecum eichlerianum var. curvicalcaratum, is a species of the genus Angraecum. This species was described by Friedrich Fritz Wilhelm Ludwig Kraenzlin in 1882.
IDENTIFY ANGRAECUM EICHLERIANUM ORCHID PLANT
Angraecum eichlerianum is found in Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo, Zaire and Angola. They grow in dense, undisturbed forests, sometimes forming a dense mass at elevations around 150 meters.
It is a large to giant sized, vining, hot growing epiphytic species with erect, elongate stems that have distichously many, narrowly elliptic-oblong, unequally bilobed apically, broad leaves.
Eichler's Angraecum blooms in the summer on an axillary, wiry, 10 to 20 cm long, 1 to 2 flowered inflorescence with long-lasting, heavy textured, fragrant flowers.
ANGRAECUM EICHLERIANUM ORCHID PLANT CARE AND CULTURE
Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.
Light:
Angraecum eichlerianum needs a light level of 2000-20000 lux. Plants need moderate shade and protection from direct sun. Strong air movement should be provided at all times.
Temperature:
Summer days temperature at average 26-27°C, and nights temperature at average 17°C, with a diurnal range of 10°C.
Humidity:
Eichler's Angraecum need the humidity of 80-85% most of the year, dropping to near 75% for about 2 months in late winter and early spring.
Substrate, growing media and repotting:
Angraecum eichlerianum are probably most easily managed if grown in fairly large, shallow, well-drained containers to which long stakes or long moss-covered poles, branches, or tree-fern poles have been attached. The stems can then be tied to these stakes until they are attached by their own growing roots. Plants need high humidity, and during hot, dry weather they may need several waterings a day. The container should be a shallow pot or basket filled with a very open, fast-draining medium that has excellent drainage, is well aerated, and allows the medium to dry fairly rapidly after watering. Growers generally use medium-sized to coarse fir bark or shredded tree-fern fiber or cork nuggets and add varying amounts of chunky perlite and/or chopped sphagnum moss to keep the medium open and retain some moisture. Including charcoal in the mix also holds the medium open and prevents souring in the pot.
Plants should be repotted immediately if the medium starts to break down. Repotting should be done just as new roots start to grow. This enables the plant to become reestablished in the shortest possible time.
Watering:
Rainfall in the habitat is heavy most of the year, with 2-3 rather dry months in winter. Cultivated plants should be watered heavily while actively growing. Water should be reduced somewhat in late autumn.
Fertilizer:
1/4-1/2 recommended strength, applied weekly when plants are actively growing. You can use a balanced fertilizer throughout the year; but also can use a high-nitrogen fertilizer from spring to midsummer, then switch to one high in phosphates in late summer and autumn.
Rest period:
Winter days temperature at average 24-25°C, and nights average 14-16°C, with a diurnal range of 10°C. Angraecum eichlerianum need less in winter, but they should never get completely dry. Fertilizer should be reduced or eliminated when water is reduced.
