IDENTIFY HYMENORCHIS JAVANICA ORCHID PLANT
Hymenorchis javanica is found only in west Java. Its grows on tall exposed trees in moist forests at elevations of 900 to 1000 meters.
It is a miniature sized, cool to warm growing, monopodial epiphyte with very short stems carrying 4 to 10, oblong, acute, dark green above, paler below, thick, fleshy, finely serrated margins, with a few short bristles, up to 2.5 cm long leaves.
The Java Hymenorchis blooms in the spring and summer on very short, pendulous, 1.5 cm long, 4 to 12 flowered inflorescence with close set, pendant, bell-shaped flowers. The flowers are about 1 cm in diameter.
HYMENORCHIS JAVANICA ORCHID PLANT CARE AND CULTURE
Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.
Light:
Hymenorchis javanica needs a light level of 25000-30000 lux. The direct sun must be shielded. The ideal photoperiod is 12 hours.
Temperature:
The Java Hymenorchis needs the average temperature in daytime at 24-26 ° C and nighttime at 17-19 ° C. The temperatures indicated are maintained throughout the year.
Humidity:
This orchids needs the average humidity level of 80-85% from April to November, and about 70% in winter.
Substrate, growing media and repotting:
Hymenorchis javanica is usually grow bare root, anchored on a raft because its roots are very sensitive to an excess of water and require a good movement of air. I personally would not recommend any moss / sphagnum around the roots because they have to dry out quickly after a dampening.
Watering:
During the growing period this plant gets water every day, even several times a day in hot periods (but the roots must dry quickly after watering).
Fertilizer:
Fertilizer take place every 7-10 days, adding 1/4 of the dose indicated on the vial of a special liquid fertilizer for the orchids. During the period of rest (from December to March) the fertilizations are suspended.
Rest period:
From April to November the Hymenorchis javanica is regularly and abundantly water, while in December-February we will have to reduce the amount of water without allowing it to remain dry for long. In March, watering is reduced to light morning steaming with a more consistent watering once a week. If the plant shows signs of stress, we increase the water. In April, the rest period end and watering return to the normal level.
