IDENTIFY DRYADELLA CRISTATA
Dryadella cristata occurs only in a few locations in southern Colombia, where it grows at elevations of about 1500-2000 meters.
It is a mini-miniature sized epiphyte, which reaching 3 cm in height, with erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 thin, loose tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, thickly coriaceous, narrowly elliptical, subacute, gradually narrows below into the base, up to 5 cm long leaf.
The Crested Dryadella blooms on a successively few flowered, congested, 3mm long inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a thin, acuminate bract and thin, acuminate, imbricating floral bracts. The blackish-purple flowers are about 8-10mm.
DRYADELLA CRISTATA CARE AND CULTURE
Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.
Light:
Dryadella cristata needs a light level of 20000-30000 lux. The direct sun (apart from the morning sun) must be shielded. If desired, it can also adapt to lower lighting levels, but in this case its growth slows very much.
Temperature:
This orchid grows very well under intermediate temperatures. Day temperature is 20-27 ° C and night temperature is 14-18 ° C.
Humidity:
The Crested Dryadella needs the humidity of 65-75%.
Substrate, growing media and repotting:
Dryadella cristata can be grown both in pots and in bare root. The mixture of sphagnum / perlite in the 2: 1 or 1: 1 ratio is very suitable as substrate (depending on the humidity around the plant, the higher and 'lighter' the substrate must be). If you choose the cultivation on raft, it is advisable to put sphagnum over the roots to prevent rapid dehydration.
Watering:
This orchid should get water as soon as the substrate has dried well but before it becomes completely dry.
Fertilizer:
It is fertilized once every 2 weeks using 1/4 of the dose indicated on the vial of a special liquid manure for orchids, which is added to the watering water.
Rest period:
Dryadella cristata does not need any rest period. The given conditions should be maintain throughout the year.
