IDENTIFY ANATHALLIS FUNEREA

Anathallis funerea is found in French Guiana, Guyana, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and northern Brazil. It grows in wet montane forests at elevations around 300 to 1600 meters.

Anathallis funerea care and culture

It is a mini-miniature sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte with erect ramicauls enveloped by 1 to 3, loose fitting, tubular, acuminate sheaths and carrying a single apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptic, minutely carinate and mucronate apically, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base, 4 cm long leaf.

The Dark Anathallis blooms on an erect, from the base of the leaf, 3 cm long, filiform, minutely white pubescent, successively few, single flowered inflorescence that lengthens and becomes fractiflex as blooming continues and has triangular, floral bracts. Its flowers are very small, about 5 mm in diameter.

ANATHALLIS FUNEREA CARE AND CULTURE

Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.

Light:

Anathallis funerea needs a light level of 10000-12000 lux; but the plant is much better growth under 15000-16000 lux. The ideal photoperiod is 12 hours.

Temperature:

 It is a intermediate-hot thermal requirements species (day 22-27 ° C, night 14-18 ° C), but it also adapts to the intermediate conditions (day 20-24 ° C, night 12-15 ° C).

Humidity:

The Dark Anathallis needs the average humidity of 60-75%.

Substrate, growing media and repotting:

Anathallis funerea can be grown either on a raft (with a sphagnum layer around the roots) or in a vase (mixture of long fiber sphagnum / perlite in proportions 1: 1 or 2: 1 as a substrate).

Watering:

It is the only weak point of this species: the young shoots are incredibly sensitive to water and develop rottenness. So, watering it, we must absolutely avoid that the water ends up on them (and possibly on the foliage in general), and if this happened to dry them immediately with a tissue. Regarding the watering rules, this species gets water when the substrate has become almost (but not completely) dry.

Fertilizer:

It is fertilized each week adding 1/4 of the indicated dose on the bottle of a special liquid fertilizer for orchids to the watering water.

Rest period:

The factor that induces the bloom of Anathallis funerea is the temperature: there must be a temperature change of 5-10 degrees between day and night. This orchid does not need a rest period.
