Pteroceras semiteretifolium also called as The Semi-Terete Leaves Pteroceras, Brachypeza semiteretifolia, Pteroceras uniflorum, Sarcochilus uniflorus, is a species of the genus Pteroceras. This species was described by Henrik Aerenlund Pedersen in 1992.
IDENTIFY PTEROCERAS SEMITERETIFOLIUM
Pteroceras semiteretifolium is native to Vietnam. This orchid is found near Dalat, in evergreen lowland forests on terminal branches and twigs of trees at elevations of 1000 to 1500 meters.
It is a cool growing, miniature, monopodial epiphyte with small, narrow-lanceolate leaves that have a pale-green color and are narrowed to form sharp tips.
The Semi-Terete Leaves Pteroceras blooms on multiple, single flowered inflorescence that carry a single a beautiful, flat, fragrant flower that can occur at any time of the year. The white flowers are 1.6-2.0 cm in diameter and the petals of both whorls are widely spread. The straight, narrow oval ridge petal is sharp and is 0.8 cm long and 0.35 cm wide. The oval lateral outer petals have narrow bases and blunt to rounded corners, are 1 cm long, 0.4 cm wide and are wide open, slightly below the level line. The narrow-ovoid shaped inner heifers have narrow bases, then gradually expand to form almost rounded tops. They are about 0.8 cm long and 0.4 cm wide near the apex. The lip has a rather long, narrow stem at the base, which expands violently into a kind of apical pocket with open, rounded side plots on each side of the apical side of the pocket. The whole lip is ok 1 cm long, and the stem at the base is approx. 0.3 cm long. The top pocket is approximately 0.6 cm deep and 0.8 cm wide across the spread out side plots. The rod is about 0.5 cm long.
PTEROCERAS SEMITERETIFOLIUM CARE AND CULTURE
Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.
Light:
Pteroceras semiteretifolium needs a light level of 20000-30000 lux. The light should be filtered or dispersed, and the plants should not be exposed to direct sunlight in the afternoon hours. Strong air movement should be ensured all the time.
Temperature:
It is a plant with moderate thermal requirements. The average summer temperature is 27 ° C at night, 18 ° C at night, and the daily amplitude is 8-9 ° C. In winter, the average day temperature is 26-28 ° C, night 13-14 ° C, which gives a daily difference of 12-14 ° C.
Humidity:
The Semi-Terete Leaves Pteroceras needs the humidity of 80-85% in the summer, at the end of winter it may fall to 65%.
Substrate, growing media and repotting:
Pteroceras semiteretifolium can be grown in shallow containers with good drainage or on tree rootstocks. However, such plants require high humidity, and during hot and dry weather, they should be watered several times a day.
It can also be grown in shallow pots or baskets filled with very loose, fast drying ground with excellent drainage and good aeration, which allows for quick drying after watering. Growers usually use medium granulation of fir bark or pieces of tree fern fiber with the addition of coarse pearlite and / or chopped sphagnum moss, which simultaneously increases the permeability of the substrate and allows the retention of moisture. The addition of charcoal helps to ensure permeability and prevents soda.
The plants should be repotted immediately if the substrate begins to decompose. It's best to do it when new roots start growing. This will allow the plant to adapt to the new substrate in the shortest possible time.
Watering:
In summer, rainfall is moderate to heavy, but it is small for 2 winter months. During active growth, the cultivated plants should be kept in moisture, while when new growths reach maturity, the amount of water should be gradually reduced.
Fertilizer:
The plants should be fertilized every week 1/4-1/2 of the recommended dose of fertilizer for orchids. A fertilizer with a high nitrogen content is beneficial from spring to mid-summer, and a fertilizer richer in phosphorus should be used in late summer and autumn.
Rest period:
For Pteroceras semiteretifolium, the watering and fertilization should be limited for 2-3 winter months. They should be allowed to dry a little before the next watering, but they must not be allowed to stay dry for a long period of time.
