IDENTIFY MILTONIOPSIS WARSCEWICZII
Miltoniopsis warscewiczii is native to Costa Rica and Panama. It was first found in Costa Rica growing epiphytically at an altitude of 1400-2000 m. They are also found in northern Panama at almost the same altitude. It is a species of Miltoniopsis growing in the coldest conditions.
It is a medium sized, cool growing epiphyte, which reaching a size of 25-35 cm, with ovoid-ellipsoid, apically unifoliate, 3-5 cm long and 1.2-1.5 cm wide pseudobulbs subtended with 4 to 6 foliaceous bracts with oblong-elliptic, 12-30 cm long and 1.2-2.5 cm wide leaves.
Warscewiczii's Miltoniopsis blooms in the fall and spring on a lateral, bracteate, 3 to 5 flowered, 30 cm long, racemose inflorescence arising on a mature pseudobulb. The flowers are about 5-8 cm in diameter. They are usually white with a delicate reddish purple spot at the base of the petals of both whorls. At the base of the lip there are 2 spots and the hair covered with a yellow thickening with 3 short ridges in the front. Sometimes, however, the flowers can be completely white except for the golden-yellow mark.
MILTONIOPSIS WARSCEWICZII CARE AND CULTURE
Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.
Light:
Miltoniopsis warscewiczii needs a light level of 15000-20000 lux.
Temperature:
Throughout the year the average temperature of the day is 19-22 ° C, night 10-12 ° C, giving a daily difference of 8-11 ° C.
Humidity:
Warscewiczii's Miltoniopsis needs the humidity of 80-85% in summer and at the beginning of autumn, it drops to almost 70% in winter and at the beginning of spring.
Substrate, growing media and repotting:
Miltoniopsis warscewiczii are generally grown in pots with a loose, fast-drying substrate is required.
Watering:
From late spring to late autumn the rainfall is very abundant, but then their average falls quite rapidly because the winter dry season occurs and precipitation until the beginning of spring is slight. During active growth, the plants should be abundantly watered, but excellent drainage and excellent aeration of the root ball should be ensured.
Fertilizer:
During the active growth, the plant should be fertilized every week 1/4-1/2 of the recommended dose of fertilizer for orchids.
Rest period:
In winter, Miltoniopsis warscewiczii need less water, especially those grown in a short, dark day at moderate latitudes or at lower temperatures. In winter, the plants should dry a little between waterings, but they should never be left without water for too long or completely dry out. As a regular morning misting between occasional waterings should provide enough moisture. Fertilization should be reduced or eliminated until spring, when regular watering is resumed.
