 Dendrobium transparens also called as The Translucent Dendrobium, Callista transparens, Dendrobium henshalli, is a species of the genus Dendrobium. This species was described by Nathaniel Wallich ex John Lindley in 1828.

IDENTIFY DENDROBIUM TRANSPARENS

 Dendrobium transparens is native to India, Nepal and Myanmar. In Nepal, their natural habitat stretches at heights of 700-1800 m. These orchids also occur in Sikkim, Khasi (Khasia) Hills and in Chin Hills in Myanmar. They also grow in the Garhwal region of northern India. They are popular in Arunachal Pradesh in north-eastern India, where they grow on trees at heights of 200-2000 m. They usually grow high on trees in open forests or at the bases of trees in dense forests.

 It is a medium to large sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte, which reaching 30-60 cm in height, with slender, terete, basally swollen, erect to pendulous, 30-60 cm long stems carrying 5 to 7, deciduous, linear-lanceolate, recurved, acute, 8-11 cm long leaves.

 The Translucent Dendrobium blooms in the spring and early summer on a short, 2 to 3 flowered raceme emerging from hyaline bracts of the old leafless canes and carrying short lived, fragrant flowers. The flowers are 3-5 cm in diameter. The flakes of both whorls are usually transparent white with varying amounts of pink or purple at the apexes, but pure white clones are also known. The curled lip is white with a pink or purple top. It is rolled in at the base, there are no clear side plots and it is gently curled along the edges. The middle plot is undulating and has undulating edges. There are 1-2 dark purple or blood-red spots in the throat.

 Dendrobium transparens needs a light level of 25000-35000 lux. From spring to autumn, the plants should be slightly shaded, but the light level should be as high as possible, so as not to let the leaves burn.

 The average temperature of the summer day is 27-31 ° C, night 21-22 ° C, giving a daily difference of 6-9 ° C. The average temperature of the winter day is 17-19 ° C, the night 9-11 ° C, and the daily difference is 8-9 ° C.

Humidity:

 In summer, The Translucent Dendrobium needs the average humidity of almost 90%, falling to 55-60% in winter. The most dry season is spring, when the average humidity for a period of about 2 months is only 40%.

Substrate, growing media and repotting:

 It is recommend mounting Dendrobium transparens on tree fern rootstock because of their hanging habit with high humidity ensured and watered at least once a day in summer. If grow them in hanging pots or baskets, these should be filled with any loose, quickly drying substrate. Repotting can be performed in any period as soon as new roots grow.

Watering:

 The plants should be constantly moist during active growth, but when new growths in autumn reach maturity, the amount of water should be gradually reduced.

 It is recommended to use a 1/2-1/4 dose of orchid fertilizer weekly. From spring to mid-summer, high-nitrogen fertilizer is preferred, and then until the end of autumn it is necessary to switch to a highly phosphoric fertilizer.

Rest period:

 In winter, the amount of water should be reduced to Dendrobium transparens. They should dry out between waterings, but they can not stay dry for too long. Occasional morning fogging between watering will have a positive effect on the condition of the plants, preventing too much drying.
