Dendrobium malvicolor also called as The Mallow-Colored Dendrobium, Pedilonum malvicolor, is a species of the genus Dendrobium. This species was described by Henry Nicholas Ridley in 1917.
IDENTIFY DENDROBIUM MALVICOLOR
Dendrobium malvicolor is native to East Java and Sumatra. In Java, these orchids meet at Mt. Lawu and Mt. Tenggere, at heights of 1590-1980 m, growing on dwarf trees. Tthe most popular plants from Sumatra grow almost at the same height, but they were also encountered on Kerinci (Korinchi) Peak at heights of 2230-3050 m.
It is a miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte, which reaching 5-6 cm in height, with crowded, sulcate, 3-4 cm long stems that are thin and wiry basally and swollen towards the apex carrying 6, linear-lanceolate, acute, apically bilobed, 2 cm long leaves.
The Mallow-Colored Dendrobium blooms in the winter on a short inflorescence with ovate-elliptic, spreading floral bracts and carrying 3 to 4 flowers arising from the apex of mature leafless canes. The flowers are 2 cm long and are white. Some have a pale lilac shade or may be pale purple with an orange tinge at the base of the lip. The side petals are triangular. The lip and petals of the inner whorl are lanceolate. All flower elements have sharp tips. The cover of the anther chamber has 2 dark purple spots.
