IDENTIFY DENDROBIUM JACOBSONII
Dendrobium jacobsonii is endemic to eastern Java. These orchids grow in alpine rainforests on Mt.Law and Mt.Semer, at heights of 2300-3000 m). They are covered with small, exposed to the sun trees, in areas where they are often found drizzle.
It is a medium sized, cold growing epiphyte, which reaching 30 cm in height, with clustered, 30 cm long pseudobulbs that often keiki on the sides carrying many 1.0-1.8 cm leaves arranged on 2 sides of the stem with the lowest being quickly deciduous and the apical ones persistent.
Jacobson's Dendrobium blooms in the spring on a short inflorescence with 1 or rarely 2, hanging flowers occurring all along both leafed and leafless canes. The flowers are 2.8 cm in diameter and hang down from the stem. All elements of the flower are uniformly bright, shiny, vividly orange to scarlet-red and have sharp tips. The lip is thickened at the apex.
DENDROBIUM JACOBSONII CARE AND CULTURE
Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.
Light:
Dendrobium jacobsonii needs a light level of 25000-35000 lux.
Temperature:
The average temperature of the day throughout the year is 14-16 ° C, the night 5-7 ° C, giving a daily difference of 7-9 ° C.
Humidity:
For most of the year, Jacobson's Dendrobium needs the humidity of 70-80%, but in winter it drops to 50%.
Substrate, growing media and repotting:
Dendrobium jacobsonii can be grown on tree rootstocks or cork, or in small pots filled with loose, quickly drying substrate. Repotting is best done when new roots grow.
Watering:
This species should be often watered during active growth (from spring to autumn) and can not dry out completely. At the end of autumn, the amount of water should be reduced.
Fertilizer:
Weekly or every 2 weeks use of a 1/4-1/2 dose of orchid fertilizer is recommended. Balanced fertilizer should be used for a round year.
Rest period:
In winter, watering and fertilizing should be slightly reduced. Dendrobium jacobsonii should dry a little between waterings, but they can not stay dry for too long.
