Dendrobium denudans care and culture

Dendrobium denudans is native to western Himalayas, Assam India, eastern Himalayas, Bhutan, Sikkim, Nepal and Thailand. In the Garhwal District in northwest India, these plants are found at heights of 1000-2000 m.

 Dendrobium denudans, also called as The Bare Dendrobium (refers to the deciduous habit), Callista denudans, is a species of the genus Dendrobium. This species was described by D.Don in 1825.

IDENTIFY DENDROBIUM DENUDANS

 Dendrobium denudans is native to western Himalayas, Assam India, eastern Himalayas, Bhutan, Sikkim, Nepal and Thailand. In the Garhwal District in northwest India, these plants are found at heights of 1000-2000 m. They usually grow at the bases of trees, where it is very humid and at the same time protected against too large fluctuations in temperature. In areas without trees, they can grow as lithophytes.

 It is a small sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte, which can reaching 8-30 cm in height, with cylindrical, yellow, 8-25 cm long stems covered by loose, funnel-shaped sheaths carrying thin-textured, lanceolate or oblong, 5-10 cm long leaves.

 The Bare Dendrobium blooms in the late summer through fall on a pendant, 4 to 6" (10 to 15 cm) long, 10 to 15 flowered inflorescence arising from the nodes near the apex of the cane carrying spidery flowers. The flowers are 1.5-2.5 cm in diameter and are large considering the size of the plant. The long, slender petals of the outer and inner whorls are creamy-white and often tinted with green or yellow. They do not open completely. The lip is usually green, but it can be white or yellowish. It has wavy edges and reddish veins. The edges of the 3-bay lip are serrated and wavy.

Substrate, growing media and repotting:

 Dendrobium denudans can be fixed on tree ferns or cork supports favors their hanging habit. If the plants can not be mounted, you can use small pots or hanging baskets filled with any loose, quickly drying ground. Repotting can be done at any time, as long as new roots grow.

Watering:

 During the five summer months, the watering is moderate to abundant. Immediately after the rainy season, a seven-month dry season begins, and lasts from autumn until spring.
