It is a miniature to small sized, cool growing species, which reaching a height of 6-20 cm, with small, cylindrical, 3-10 cm long and 0.6-1.5 cm wide pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, stiff, coriaceous, ovate-lanceolate, acute, 3-10 cm long leaf.

Brieger's Cattleya blooms in the later spring on a terminal, erect, 20 to 25 cm long, single flowered inflorescence that is much longer than the leaf. The bright yellow flowers, opening all at the same time, are 4.0-5.5 cm in diameter. They have wide petals of outer and inner whorls, which open wide to form a beautiful flower.

CATTLEYA BRIEGERI CARE AND CULTURE

Cultural information should only be used as a guide, and should be to be adapted to suit you. Your physical location; where you grow your plants, how much time you have to devote to their care, and many other factors, will need to be taken into account. Only then can you decide on the cultural methods that best suit you and your plants.

Light:

Cattleya briegeri needs a light level of 30000-40000 lux. Bright light should be slightly filtered or scattered, the plants should not be exposed to the direct sunlight of the midday sun. You need to ensure constant strong air movement.

Temperature:

 It is a thermophilic plant. The average daily temperature in summer is 24-26 ° C, at night 16-17 ° C, daily amplitude 7-10 ° C. In winter the average day temperature is 21-23 ° C, night 11-12 ° C, with a daily amplitude of 10-11 ° C.

Humidity:

Brieger's Cattleya needs the humidity of about 80% for most of the year, in winter and early spring, falling to around 70-75%.

Substrate, growing media and repotting:

Cattleya briegeri are usually grown in pots with a very loose and well-permeable substrate. The substrate must be loose enough that the roots dry quickly after watering. Small pots are better than large ones, because in large pots the substrate stays moist for too long after watering. If the roots do not dry quickly after watering, it can cause rot. You can use small pots filled with pieces of broken sandstone and chopped ferns of woody ferns. Repotting or dividing is best done when new roots begin to grow.

Watering:

From spring to autumn, rainfall is moderate, even abundant, and their amount decreases at the end of summer giving a 2-3-month dry winter period. During active growth, the plants should be watered frequently, while the roots must dry quickly after watering. When new growths reach maturity in the autumn, the amount of water should be gradually reduced.

Fertilizer:

During the active growth, the plants should be fertilized every week 1/4-1/2 of the recommended dose of fertilizer for orchids. A fertilizer with a high nitrogen content is beneficial from spring to mid-summer, and a fertilizer richer in phosphorus should be used in late summer and autumn.

Rest period:

During 2-3 months of winter, Cattleya briegeri require a dry period of rest and only occasionally need fogging to avoid too much drying and wrinkling of the plant. Watering can be slightly increased if the leaves or pseudobulbs show excessive wrinkling. Fertilization should be eliminated until resumption of spring watering.
